Voice for Companion Animals Launches “Spay/Neuter – GI” Program to Address Pet Overpopulation and Support Local Pet Owners

Grand Island, NE — August 18, 2025 – Voice for Companion Animals is proud to announce the launch of Spay/Neuter – GI, a new low-cost spay and neuter program designed to reduce pet overpopulation, promote healthier companion animals, and support pet owners in the Grand Island area who may otherwise be unable to afford these important procedures.

This vital initiative comes at a time when shelters and rescues are seeing an unprecedented influx of cats and dogs, many of whom are the result of unplanned litters. By making spay and neuter services affordable, Spay/Neuter – GI aims to break the cycle of overpopulation while improving the long-term health and well-being of pets in our community.

Local veterinary clinics have stepped up to partner in this important mission, including:

Animal Medical Clinic
Grand Island Veterinary Hospital
Family Pet Clinic
South Locust Veterinary Clinic
Parks Veterinary

“We know that the cost of veterinary procedures can be a barrier for many families,” said Robyn Mays, Executive Director of Voice for Companion Animals. “Through Spay/Neuter – GI, we are removing that barrier and giving pets a better chance at a healthier, happier life—while helping our community avoid the heartbreak and strain of pet overpopulation. And we are so excited to announce that all five veterinary clinics located in Grand Island are participating in the new program.”

How the Program Works:
Beginning September 1, pet owners interested in the spay/neuter program may contact Voice for Companion Animals at 308-675-3445 or by emailing info@voiceforcompanionanimals.com. An application will then be sent to the pet owner. Once the application has been returned and reviewed, the pet owner will be contacted regarding the next steps to scheduling their pet’s spay/neuter appointment. The program is available to both cats and dogs, at a cost of $20 per pet.

A Call for Community Support
To ensure the sustainability and growth of Spay/Neuter – GI, Voice for Companion Animals is launching a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising $50,000, with $20,000 having already been raised. These funds will help subsidize costs for low-income pet owners and expand the program to serve more animals in need.
